Reflection Essay
Taking composition II has deepened my understanding of revising, editing, and writing skills. From the beginning of the course I’ve never experienced any college level criteria or formats that must be included. When looking back from my first assignments to my final assignments, the course has helped organize my essays better, and see how better it’s become. Before, my essays needed improvement in my works cited page and organization. In my argumentative essay, I remember in my works cited page I had no experience in MLA format and hanging indentions. Failing my assignments was routine for not knowing the basic MLA format, or not writing a good enough thesis that correlates with the essay or assignment. Looking now after the class, I’ve gotten to improve my works cited and learned to use better topic sentences with better transitions. I disputed about the Ebola outbreak, in the beginning using a topic sentence that can be argued on and using informational websites. The essay helped me realize my mistakes after grading, and focus on the parts that needed more help. One of the many impacts I needed improvement on was grammar. Grammar is one of my many key struggling points from commas to meaningful phrases. In my essays, I would write a good sentence, but lack clear or effective communication. I learned to better my grammar after doing peer reviews and going on websites or the internet that helped with specific grammar implementations. Getting feedback from a peer reviewer helped me and others point out any mistakes from an essay. Also using grammar related websites has helped improve my commas and better wording throughout my sentences. Lastly, editing and revising was one of the more skills I’ve learned. There are many steps in writing, to improve clarity, and accuracy in my essays. More than ever, I would forget to reread my essays, or lack improvement on my structure at times, but after doing the literary analysis essay, I had become more confident in spotting typos and correcting any punctuation. After finishing the essay, a day was given to give myself rest, then spot anything that I would not have been able to pick out the day before. I also checked closely to examine the purpose of each paragraph and find its meaning. Doing this, I have been able to spot any grammar mistakes, and rewrite any words that could change the meaning of the paragraph. These changes have improved my writing to be more professional. Knowing this, I’ve become a better writer. Developing a better thesis, editing my essays, and focusing on the meanings of grammar. I’ve used this essay to better my practice and organize my ideas. Overall, all the knowledge I have gained from this course will encourage me to write more clearly, and expressively. Without hesitation, I’ve grown to make use of my writing skills, and refine my grammar. After taking this course, it has deepend me to abilitate my skills and brought writing to a new light.
